Cardiac CT is a safe, easy alternative to many other heart diagnostic tools. The test uses a special x-ray to take detailed 3D images of your heart to see if your arteries are clogged. Through this advanced imaging, we are able to determine your risks for coronary artery disease (CAD) and heart attack, and potentially prevent a blockage before it happens. Additionally, we use Cardiac CT to track plaque buildup in the heart to ensure that your treatment is working.

Cardiologists at Tennessee Heart & Vascular are nationally recognized leaders in Cardiac CT technology. We have spent over 20 years perfecting Cardiac CT and have trained hundreds of other cardiologists in the best techniques.

What to Expect

  • This diagnostic test uses contrast so your arteries can be seen more clearly
  • You will receive an IV in your arm for the contrast and you will be connected to an EKG monitor
  • You will lie still on your back on the exam table with your arms above your head
  • The tube-shaped scanner will take images of your heart while you’re lying on the table
  • Your doctor will constantly monitor your heart rate and blood pressure during the test and will remove the IV when the test is over
  • When your results are in, your cardiologist will call you to discuss the results

This scan allows your cardiologist to look for calcium deposits and narrowed arteries in your heart. No advance preparation needed.
